Birding in the Gardens

1 Day Birding Pass

Bird watching isn’t always the most comfortable of hobbies but here at Mocking Bird Hill we are listed by Alan Sander in Bird in Birds of the West Indies as one of the best sites for birdwatching in Jamaica; we see no reason why a little luxury cannot be enjoyed by birders and their partners even if it is just for the day!

We’ve created a 1-Day Birding Pass for visitors to Port Antonio who would like the possibility of seeing 22 of Jamaica’s 28 endemics plus 6 Caribbean endemics on our 6.5 acre property, known as one of the better places to see Black-billed Streamertail. The lush gardens, flowering shrubs, and mature trees provide rich habitat for more than 72 bird species, including many neotropical migrants. At last count, we’ve hosted 17 species of North American warblers! Whether watching birds from the gardens, the perch, along our quiet private road, or while dining on the terrace, birding at Hotel Mocking Bird Hill will prove a most rewarding experience.

Depending on the season and when it gets light we open our gates to our 1 Day Birding Pass guests at between 05.30-06.30 and you are free to stay for the day, although most of guests retire mid-afternoon.  We provide a bird checklist, and books that are germane to the subject are available for our 1 Day guests to use.
