Photography Holiday Port Antonio, Jamaica

Coves on Jamaicaa's north east coastMocking Bird Hill, Jamaica’s No.1 eco boutique hotel, are delighted to offer a 1 week travel photography course in Port Antonio, positioned on Jamaica’s untouched & lush North east coast. The course is the led by award-winning travel photographer Jon Whittle.

Full of surprises, the land of wood & water is filled with photographic opportunities via its wide range of landscapes:  quite literally ‘Blue’ Mountains & waterfalls to verdant framed rain forest coves that lead to unspoiled  wide sandy beaches, there is something for everyone.  For those interested in portraiture the course offers plenty of opportunities to capture Jamaica’s dazzling people, who form the basis of the island’s motto ‘out of many one’.   If you have a preference for wildlife, the island is host to 28 endemic birds attracted to its rich flora & fauna that includes orchids and bromeliads, the greatest number on any Caribbean island.  The parish of Portland is home to the world’s largest Swallow-tail butterfly as well as another 133 species of butterfly that enjoy the island’s verdant and montane forests.

Jon Whittle, a graduate from Brooks Institute of Photography in California and currently a Florida resident, is a staff photographer for the Bonnier Corporation, shooting for titles that include Islands, Caribbean Travel and Life, Garden Design, HOME Miami, Destination Weddings and Honeymoons, Conceive, Sound and Vision, and SNOW.  Last year he won awards from the Garden Writers Association and Florida Magazine Association for best black & white shot.  He has travelled on assignment to over 16 countries for over 20 magazines and private clients.

The course is geared toward the amateur/hobbyist photographer, looking to make the most from their DSLR camera, moving away from ‘automatic’ into ‘manual’ mode.  Those with currently pocket cameras are welcome to attend to use the course as to help decide whether moving across to a DSLR is right for them before potentially investing in one.
