Education Needs our Urgent Generous Help
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce a project, for which we hope to garner your support.
The objective of the E.N.O.U.G.H. programme is to galvanise support for better quality education in Port Antonio’s schools. We believe that a number of social and economic problems the country is facing are due to either poor education or no education at all. Poor education puts a large number of our community members at disadvantage and makes it so much almost impossible for them to achieve a higher quality of life that they desire to attain.
We at Hotel Mocking Bird Hill do not intend to take over the job of educating. Rather it is our intention to support those who are trained to do so by providing books and learning material through the E.N.O.U.G.H. Programme.
Our schools need community support in order to thrive. Join forces with us and help through E.N.O.U.G.H. to help improve the quality of education for the students.
In addition to financial contributions towards this goal, the donation of books or other educational toys or learning materials, be it used or new, would be most appreciated. If you have time before you arrive on your holiday in Jamaica could please gather any books or educational resources from friends and family. Perhaps you or they have children that have outgrown their books or other educational tools. Upon your arrival we can distribute these amongst the local schools who would be so appreciative.
With your support this programme can grow to assist schools in this area.
Please be generous and support E.N.O.U.G.H. with a donation. The children are our future – let us invest wisely so that we can achieve our dreams together.
Our Partnership with The School of Hope
Hotel Mocking Bird hill opened its doors in December of 1993. To celebrate the hotel’s 20th anniversary in December 2013, the management and team decided that rather than throwing a big party they would remain true to one of the hotel’s core philosophies and give something back to the community.
After some thought we decided that we would bring a little hope to the School of Hope which is located just 5 minutes drive from the hotel. The School of Hope provides education for some 35 children with very special needs. A large group of the children are deaf, some are also mute and others have a variety of mental challenges. The entire Mockingbird team contributed and this is what we did, we sewed Christmas stockings and filled them with sweet goodies, we baked Christmas cookies and cake, made a huge pot of good Jamaican Chocolate tea and took all of this to the school on the last day of term. In addition we installed curtain rods and hung some of our used curtains and our gardeners bushed the entire school yard and prepared it for tree planting. After the tea, cake and cookies each child, with the help of a member of the Mockingbird team planted a tree in the school yard. The trees and plants all came from Mockingbird’s garden and nursery.
Our intention is to continue our support of this very important little school. Our gardeners will be going back before the new term starts to bush the yard and freshen it up. The children hung wish cards on the Christmas tree that we had hung with the Christmas stockings and we will try to make some of those very small wishes come true.
