Nature’s Handmade Paper Products

People living in poverty do not have the luxury to care about natural resources, they worry instead about their next meal and most basic needs. In the worst cases, their destitution leads to destruction of their environment. At the same time, however, our ability to create wealth and the economic resources that might enable those people to escape poverty requires that we use our natural resources wisely.

Since our launch we have identified actions, resources and partners necessary to encourage the provision of products and services, which enhance rather than destroy the environment and culture, one of these long-term partners is the women from the Fairy Hill Community who create beautiful recycled paper & stationary from our shredded waste paper which we then use within the hotel and give as gifts to our guests.

We applied for and secured funding on behalf of the women’s handmade paper making project in Fairy Hill. They purchased equipment, received marketing assistance and attended seminars on operating a small business and fine handcrafts to enhance their skills.

Eight women are now employed by the project in their own workshop designing and make paper products from recycled paper, including greeting cards, envelopes, note pads and picture frames.  Guests at Mocking Bird Hill receive a packet of homemade paper as a stationary gift.

Arrangements can be made via the hotel to visit Fairy Hill and purchase gifts, possibly in conjunction with a visit to Winnifred Beach.
